Authentically assessing student learning has always been a challenge. Now we have the added challenge of attempting to do this while students learn remotely/hybrid/blended. There are all sorts of proctoring software that will monitor students’ responses to a traditional test, but we need to be thinking of other ways to measure their understanding that’s not necessarily on a multiple choice quiz. During this session, we’ll explore several different strategies for educators to assess their students’ learning in any environment.

Join in to compare the difference between a teacher as a classroom director, and a facilitator of learning who encourages students to take the lead learner role. We will examine what a facilitator of learning does and how students benefit from this simple mind shift.

Inspired by the work of Dr. Catlin Tucker (who wrote Balance with Blended Learning), Liz and I would discuss and demonstrate how creating blended learning playlists and station rotation models helped us to move to a more student centered approach by allowing students to truly master content (even if absent!) at their own pace and with choice, while also transforming the ways we gave feedback to students in our classrooms (creating more one on one time for teacher/student interactions and timely, actionable feedback)
